Create a route that passes by and through as many wind farms, solar installations, geothermal (if you are in CA, NV or Utah) as possible. You can catch a lot of wind in upstate New York and PA and still be in the vicinity of our urban areas. There is plenty of large scale solar going up in CA. You could do Colorado and hit Boulder "SmartGridCity", wind energy and solar sites as well as some of the companies that are building the infrastructure.
Tallahassee-->New Orleans (~385 miles) or Atlanta-->New Orleans (~370 miles) or Houston--.NOLA.
Since NOLA is one of the most well-know areas hit by a natural disaster in the US that is likely linked to global warming, what about ending a ride there? I believe that the route would be much flatter, so more mileage could be covered each day.
What if each ride had a "theme" such as: learning about wind power (which would go along wind farms and would meet with folks in that particular field), taking your voice to the Senate (the current NYC--> DC ride), exploring natural parks of the US (out near Yellowstone? or some other place- Blue Ridge Parkway?)
