Engender stronger connections to communities on the route

#1
Have more frequent or structured stops along the way. Create ways to talk with local people about climate change and energy issues.

3

More time to socialize with other riders

#2
This could be either structured or unstructored socializing time. I loved the talks, but I think we could have had fewer.

3

Be more transparent about the selection of beneficiaries

#3
Allow Climate Riders to be part of the discussion on who Climate Ride supports. Add a third beneficiary (chosen by Climate Riders)? Direct the funds raised toward a specific project or contest. Post content about how our beneficiaries are putting their donations to good use.

3

Make the DC finale/press event/rally as BIG as possible

#4
What do you want this event/rally/press conference to look like? How can we make it more effective, and make more noise?

2

Daily Announcements

#5
Ok, this is a minor minor issue, but it would be helpful to have an announcement time every night. Such as at 7:30 PM, so that people know when to congregate and listen up.

2

Fund specific "green" projects with money raised

#6
There are many worthwhile renewable energy and energy efficiency projects waiting to be funded. This could include funding local initiatives in the communites through which we pass, helping energy retrofits to a school, building a "PassiveHaus", wind or solar farms, and so on.

Where was the press at the end of the ride?

#7
We should have connected with the communities as we traveled through and at the end there should have been a big press presence. Was there any press at the final rally? I didn't see them but that doesn't mean they were there.

1

Lower fundraising minimum

#8
I found the $2,400 fundraising minimum to be too high and a cause of great stress before the ride. I had almost 3 months for raising the money, and it was still hard. This significantly takes away from the enjoyment. We should achieve a balance through which we put in our effort, but do not have to obsess and stress about it. $1,500?

Change the dates.

#9
Should Climate Ride NYC-DC happen at a different time of year? Please consider the heat of summer (for a June, July, or August event) and consider the limited training time available if the ride is in April or May.

This is a group of advocates riding for a cause!

#10
Please remember that, especially this year, the ride was made up mostly of climate change advocates riding bicycles to promote their cause, not a just a group of cyclists riding for a cause. This is different then an MS ride or the like. Keep this in consideration when pushing riders to get to a destination by 5pm for dinner (when it doesn't get dark until 7) and when planning the routes. There were a number of advocates new to riding and those new to riding such long distances with hills. Plan accordingly and treat all the riders as such, not as the avid cyclists that the route and plans suggested. Also, treat us llike adults: This was supposed to be fun and community building and I felt, at times, that I was a camper with a bunch of camp counselors telling me how and when to do things. I understand all of the liabilities and all that went into the planning, but a number of us felt rushed to be somewhere at a certain time, like the day was only planned around the speakers (which, really, were unnecessary).

1

Host the DC celebration immediately after the ride

#11
We are working on ways to improve the finale. We'll be posting more information on this shortly, but please do send us your comments!

1

Add diversity to the mix of Climate Riders

#12
Reach out to and bring in more people from disadvantaged and underserved populations and regions of the US.

1

Build more Climate Rides!

#13
Add more Climate Rides across the country, and around the world!

Better food, more food, vegetarian food. We're cycling!

#14
You need those calories. While we try to get as much food as possible donated (helps keep costs down), we do have some flexibility with the catered meals and snacks. Let us know what you would like to have and we will do our best to get it.
